Club’s CEO already in London, easy access for Tottenham talks – Refusing to give up

If there’s one thing you cannot fault AS Roma for this transfer window, it’s their perseverance in their attempts to get Toby Alderweireld.
Refusing to pay the Belgian’s release clause before July 25th, the Serie A side seemed to have missed their chance to get the Tottenham defender, but it was apparently all part of their plan.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma see the 30-year-old’s contract running out next June as their joker card, knowing full well Daniel Levy will not want to lose the player for nothing in 11 months time.
Therefore, talks for Alderweireld continue, mostly thanks to Franco Baldini, who has been a key part in this affair, and there’s help from the centre-back’s end, as he’s already said yes to a contract offer, wanting to play in Serie A if possible.

Furthermore, Corriere believe both Gianluca Petrachi and the former Tottenham technical director could head out to London before the weekend to ‘attempt the decisive lunge’.
However, if Gazzetta dello Sport are to be believed, there isn’t a huge need for the pair to travel, as Roma’s CEO, Guido Fienga, is already in England’s capital to promote new bonds available for investors.
That means that if the opportunity arises, there will be no waste of time as he’ll be able to bring the offer Levy himself.
It’s once again stated that Alderweireld’s contract situation plays in Roma’s favour, and, as already pointed out in Il Messaggero, there appears to be real hope of getting a transfer over the line.
