Leeds United player defended – May not play ‘spectacular’ passes, but certainly doing a role

Former Poland international Sławomir Chałaśkiewicz has praised Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich for his contribution during Poland’s 1-1 draw with Italy last week.
The Leeds United player was drafted back into the Poland set up after a four year absence.
Now working for Eurosport, Chałaśkiewicz has spoken to Gol24 about Klich’s performance during last Friday’s UEFA Nations League game: “First of all, he had a good game. He does not always go to play spectacular balls, because it was not his role on Friday. Sometimes you have to fill gaps in the middle of the field when the defenders are lacking. Mateusz Klich did it very well.”
Klich struggled to adapt in his debut season with Leeds United after arriving at Elland Road last summer. The Pole played just a handful of games for the Championship club before being loaned to FC Utrecht in January for the remainder of the last campaign.

However, under Marcelo Bielsa the central midfielder has become a key player, starting in all of Leeds United’s opening league games.
This has helped force him back into contention with his national team and he could be involved when Poland meet the Republic of Ireland in a friendly tonight.
During the international break there’s been a lot of praise going the player’s way in Poland, but also some criticism… hence Chałaśkiewicz suggesting his work isn’t appreciated enough.
