Barcelona edging towards signing – Now only €5m difference – Segura exit helped

For much of this summer Real Betis have been looking to raise funds by selling one of their star men, Junior Firpo and Giovani Lo Celso.
The club need money to cover the acquisition of Nabil Fekir, as well as fund a move for a new striker, namely Borja Iglesias.
Junior has been linked with Barcelona for much of the transfer window, but recently it appeared that the Catalans had turned their attention elsewhere because of Betis’ asking price.
However, that appears to have changed again and AS say it is down to the dismissal of Pep Segura. He was recently replaced as Sporting Director at the Nou Camp, and that means Firpo is back on the table.
The newspaper says Barca want to pay €20m at most for the youngster, although Betis believe that they can get more for their man.
Sport back up the claim that negotiations have opened once more between the two clubs and offer further details on how they are going.
They say that the two clubs continue to talk over the player and Betis are now ‘in a position to lower their initial claims.’
Barcelona want a new left-back as the backup to Jordi Alba but made it clear to Betis over the weekend that they would not get anywhere near the €35m asking price. On Monday, Betis lowered their asking price to €25m, but Barca only want to pay €20m.
There is, therefore, a €5m difference between both clubs but Sport say ‘there is room for negotiation’ as an offer of a fixed price has plus bonuses has been proposed, and that would suit Barca more. Those negotiations went smoothly, and although nothing is final, this is one that could get done sooner rather than later.
