Rodri to Manchester City is one of the most believable rumours around right now.
There’s various reasons for it. Firstly, when it was claimed in England that Pep Guardiola’s side were interested in other Atleti players, the Spanish media quickly rubbished it… and then reported it was actually Rodri getting the attention.
The midfielder looks like he could be a good long term replacement for Fernandinho, and with a €70m buyout clause he’s certainly gettable.
Reporting around the transfer has been steadily growing, and it’s felt increasingly likely that a deal could be done. Atletico seemed to be pushing this out to their local media, along with an insistence he wouldn’t be such a big loss anyway.
Then on Wednesday, Cadena Ser reported the player will be leaving Atletico, as if it were fact, and Manchester City got a mention along with Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
There’s been nothing in Germany to back Bayern interest up, and Barca are spending their money elsewhere this summer.
Now the Madrid club’s president has said something which sounds like a hint a move could be on. When asked by Cope about the player, Enrique Cerezo said: “Rodrigo is an Atletico player, but if tomorrow he has an offer and he wants to go…”
He didn’t finish the sentence, leaving it there hanging.
